General Information

The Journal of Hearing Science (J Hear Sci) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal that publishes original articles in all areas of otorhinolaryngology, audiology, and phoniatrics, as well as related fields such as speech-language pathology, speech therapy and rehabilitation, genetics, pharmacology, surgery, and biomedical engineering. J Hear Sci is issued four times per year (March, June, September, December) both in printed form and electronically at www.journalofhearingscience.com.

Authors
The Journal of Hearing Science is open to scientists from all countries. All authors should supply their ORCID IDs.

Types of Articles
J Hear Sci publishes: original articles, review papers, hypothesis papers, case studies, book reviews, and conference reports.

Open Access
J Hear Sci is primarily an electronic open access (OA) journal, although print copies can be ordered on request (see Print-Version Subscription).

Payment
The submission, peer-review, and publishing of manuscripts are free of charge.

ORCID
To publish articles in the Journal of Hearing Science, the author must have an ORCID identifier. When submitting an article to the Journal of Hearing Science editorial system, users may log in with their ORCID identifier, and once the article is published, their ORCID record will be automatically updated.

Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)
J Hear Sci permits the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools, including generative AI and large language models (LLMs), as support tools in the research and manuscript preparation process, provided that their use is fully transparent and consistent with the highest standards of research integrity and publication ethics. However, Authors must disclose any use of AI tools in the preparation of their manuscript, specifying the name of the tool used, the purpose for which it was employed, and the extent of its contribution (for more information, see: Policy and Ethical Guidelines).

Copyright

1. For new articles (from January 2023)
Upon acceptance of an article, the authors grant J Hear Sci a non-exclusive license to publish it. The authors will retain copyright under a Creative Commons Attribution – NonCommercial – NoDerivatives 3.0 PL license (CC BY-NC-ND 3.0 PL).

The license allows anyone to download the article and share it with others so long as they credit the authors and source, do not change it in any way, and do not use it commercially. Once an article is accepted for publication, it is embargoed from reporting in the media until it appears on the J Hear Sci website.

2. Archived issues
Copyright of articles published in issues from 1/2011 vol. 1 to 3/2018 vol. 8 belongs to the editor of the „Journal of Hearing Science” (© J Hear Sci).

Copyright of articles published in issues from 4/2018 vol. 8 to 2/2020 vol. 10 belongs to the authors (© the authors) under a CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 license.

The editor declares that despite the omission of the mark „© the authors,” copyright of articles published in issues from 3/2020 vol. 10 to 4/2021 vol. 11 belongs to authors under a CC BY-NC-ND 3.0 PL license^*.

Further, the editor declares that copyright of articles published in volume 12 (issues 1–4/2022) also belongs to the authors under a CC BY-NC-ND 3.0 PL license, despite the incorrect marking of „© J Hear Sci”^*.
